Answer:

Children’s duty is no different from anybody else’s duty. Children have the duty to be themselves. They must figure out what they want in life. They must figure out what they love to do. Then they must figure out how to do what they love in a way that benefits others.

Children do not have any special duty towards parents, society or humanity. They have no more duties than any other member of society. They don’t owe anyone anything. After all, they did not choose to be born.

Parents do have a duty to raise their children so that they can become themselves. Many parents don’t understand this, and some think their children are their slaves, owing them respect at all ages and succor in their old age, for no other reason than they brought their children into the world.

How you view the duty between children and parents depends on what you were raised to think, among other things. Some parents do believe that children are their slaves, simply because they brought them into the world. That’s pretty ridiculous and selfish, but if you don’t think much of yourself, it probably makes sense to try to force your kids to obey you. They won’t do it out of respect if you don’t respect yourself.
