In the prairies people have two major occupations. They are cattle rearing and farming. The tall and nutritios grasses are very suitable for dairy cattle. Beef cattle are rearedin large farms called ranches. The prairies are also one of the most productive agricultural land in the world. Wheat is the most important crop in the prairies.While in the velds crop cultivation is not important.The main occupations of the people in the veld are animal rearing and mining. Cattle and sheep are reared here. Sheep are raised mainly for their wool. The veld is rich in minerals and therefore mining is an important activity here.
