socialist seizure of power. A Military Revolutionary Committee was appointed by the Soviet under
Leon Trotskii to organize the seizure. The date of the event was kept a secret.
ii) The uprising began on 24 October. Sensing trouble, Prime Minister Kerenskii had left the city to summon troops. At dawn, military men loyal to the government seized the buildings of two Bolshevik
newspapers.

seize government offices and arrest ministers.
iv) Late in the day, the ship Aurora shelled the Winter Palace. Other vessels sailed down the Neva
river and took over various military points. By nightfall, the city was under the committee’s control and

Answer:

The aftermath of the October Revolution was the beginning of the Russian Civil War, which lasted from 1917-1922, with the Bolshevik Red Army triumphing over the White Army. Once securely in power, Lenin enacted decrees that laid the groundwork for Russia becoming the world's first Communist country. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was created in December of 1922. All Russian banks were nationalized and private accounts were confiscated, Church property was seized, all foreign debt was abandoned, and control of factories was given to the government, as well as, all privately held lands. The lasting effects of the October Revolution and the Russian Revolution was the beginning of Russia as a Communist country. This later led to Russia becoming a world super power and creating an era of tension between the Unites States and the Soviet Union, known as the Cold War, that began after the end of World War II and ended in 1991 when the Soviet Union fell apart.
