- Acid rain has the most visible biological effects in aquatic environments such as streams, lakes, and marshes, where it may kill fish and other organisms.
- Acidic rainwater may remove aluminium from soil clay particles as it flows through the soil and into streams and lakes.
- When acid is put into the environment, aluminium is released in higher quantities.
- Some plants and animals can withstand acidic waters with low quantities of aluminium.
- Others, on the other hand, are acid-tolerant and will die if the pH falls below a certain level. The young of most animals are more susceptible to environmental variables than adults.
- If the pH is more than 5, most fish eggs will not hatch. If the pH is too low, some adult fish will die.
