The change in temperature cause the change in the state of matter.

When the temperature is increased, liquid changes into gaseous form. For example, when water is boiled, it changes into vapour.

When the temperature is brought down, the liquid changes into solid. For example ; when water is freezed it solidifies to form ice.

Hence, when there comes some change in temperature, the state of matter changes.

☆ Some effect of Temperature on state of matter :-

• Solid change into liquid state due to temperature. This is a process which is generally known as melting or fusion.

☆ Now

• On further heating liquid change into gas. This is a process which is generally known as vaporisation.

☆ Then the reverse process takes place :-

• Gaseous state on cooling changes into the liquid state whereas liquid state on cooling changes to solid.

• Some solid substances such as camphor, Iodine when it will be heated then it directly converted into gas.

☆ Example :-

• Water change into ice at below 273 Kelvin

• Liquid substance exists between 373 Kelvin

• Gaseous state required above 373 Kelvin.

☆ [Above we see that solid change to liquid and liquid change to gaseous state due to rise or decrease in temperature.]
