What are the effects of chemical fertilizer on the soil and the ground water

we know that chemical fertilizers are use for good crop production as it provides phosphorus,nutrients to the soil for good crop production. but excessive use if fertilizers can harm the soil , the soil loses its strenght and fertility. the ground water bacame sour and may get poisonous.
