The French Revolution of 1789 had a momentous impact on neighboring countries. The French Revolutionary armies during the 1790s and later under Napoleon invaded and controlled large parts of Europe. Together with invasion came various radical institutional changes
Effects of French revolution:
1. 'Liberty, Equality and Fraternity became the watch word.
2. Government in France broke down, as royal officials fled and the people stopped paying taxes. The Nationql Assembly governed France from 1789-1791. It drafted a constitution which created a limited monarchy. Its preamble was the famous Declaretion of the Rights of Man.
3. All feudal rights were abolished. Local government was reorgnised. The old provinces were replaced by 83 departsments. Church lands were conficated and selled to peasants.
4. This revolution established the political supremacy of the middle class of the towns and transferred the bulk of landed property to the peasantry in the countryside.
