Ocean pollution is mainly caused due to many reasons, Oil spills from ships are an important cause of the ocean pollution. Discharge from industries into the oceans is also a cause of ocean pollution. The effects of ocean pollution are:
- Danger to the Marine Life: We all are aware that beneath the ocean there exist life forms of different marine animals which include fish, octopus, and many others and they are equally important to maintain the balance in the ecosystem. Ocean pollution causes harm to these marine animals and leads to their extinction.
- Drainage of the oxygen layer: The degradation of rocks and debris uses oxygen to degrade. Industrial discharge that flows into the ocean is mainly composed of nitrogen and phosphorus and they too deplete the oxygen layer in the ocean.
- Danger to human life: Industrial discharges are consumed by marine animals. When we consume seafood the toxins that are consumed by the marine animals are transferred to us and they damage the organs.
