Answer:

DEFINITION : Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into the natural environment that cause adverse change.

EFFECTS OF POLLUTION :

1. High levels of air pollution can cause an increased risk of heart attack, wheezing, coughing, and breathing problems, and irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat. Air pollution can also cause worsening of existing heart problems, asthma, and other lung complications.

2. Biggest consequence of water pollution is the death of aquatic creatures, which can disrupt the entire food chain.

3. Noise pollution can cause stress, anxiety, headaches, irritability, hearing loss, and sleep loss resulting in decreased productivity.

4. Global warming is a direct consequence of the greenhouse effect, which is produced by the high emission of CO2 and methane into the atmosphere.

5. Due to climate change, the mass of the poles is melting, and this is leading to flooding and the rising of sea levels.

6. When the particles, chemicals, and pollutant gasses present in the atmosphere chemically react with water molecules and oxygen, they form acidic compounds. These acid compounds cause damage to vegetations, buildings, and the environment in general. hese acidic chemical compounds then combine with various forms of precipitation such as snow, fog, rain, or sleet to form “acid rain.”

7. The environment is the first casualty for the increase in pollution weather in air or water. The increase in the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere leads to smog which can restrict sunlight from reaching the earth.

8. The ozone layer is the thin shield high up in the sky that stops ultraviolet rays from reaching the earth. As a result of human activities, chemicals, such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), are released into the atmosphere thereby contributing to the depletion of the ozone layer.

9. Various forms of chemicals produced from industrial waste are released into the flowing water which also affects the quality of the soil.

10. Sewage discharged into coastal waters can wash up on beaches and cause a health hazard.
