Generally they are broken up into 3 section.

*Input

*Processing

*Output

Input can take many forms, such as Mice, Keyboards, Cameras, Bio-scanners, Big Red Buttons, etc.

Output can also take many forms: Printed Paper, Monitors, Mechanical Actions, and Explosion just to name a few.

Processing is broken down into 3 sections, given us the 5 when including In/Output.

*Pathways

*Memory

*Control Unit

Pathways are anything to transmit the information around from place to place: Wires, Circuits, Carrier Pigeons, etc.

Memory is anything to hold the information while it's not currently being processed: RAM, Hard Disk Drives, Floppies, Inboxes, etc.

And finally the Control Unit is the part that processes the information: CPU,  The Brain, etc.
