Fire can be extinguished by any of the following - 
~ If oxygen supply is cut off 
~ Water can be used ( Water cannot be used to extinguish electrical fires as it is a good conductor of electricity ) 
~ Cylinders filled with carbon dioxide under high pressure cools down the combustible substance besides cutting off the air supply 
~ Sand is also used to extinguish fire 
~ A blanket if used to cover the combustible substance can also extinguish fire
