Their should be moisture in the atmosphere.

And sunlight.

Then only two refraction and one internalreflection takes place.

Thats why it need sunlight as a white light and water droplets.

Two conditions must be met in order for you to see a rainbow are sun rays, waterdroplets. The sun makes rainbows when white sunlight passes through rain drops. The raindrops act like tiny prisms. When white light enters into raindrops, it scattered white light into 7 different colours.
