The block diagram of a communication system contains five blocks, including the information source(message signal), transmitter, channel, receiver and destination blocks (output signal).

Explanation:

1. Information source (message signal): -

  • The objective of any communication system is to transfer information from one point to another. The information comes from the source of information that is the source.
  • Information is a very general word that means at an abstract level, everything that is intended for communication, including thoughts, messages, feelings, a visual scene, etc.
  • The information source converts this information into physical quantities.
  • The physical manifestation of information is called a message signal.

2. Transmitter: -

  • The purpose of the transmission block is to collect the incoming message signal and, if necessary, to modify it accordingly so that it can be transmitted to the reception point via the selected channel.
  • The channel is a physical medium that connects the transmitter block to the receiver block.
  • The functionality of the transmitter block is mainly determined by the type or type of channel selected for communication.

3. Channel: -

  • The channel is the physical medium that connects the transmitter to that of the receiver.
  • The physical medium includes copper wire, a coaxial cable, a fibre optic cable, a waveguide and an atmosphere or free space.
  • The choice of a specific channel depends on the feasibility and the purpose of the communication system.

4. Receiver: -

  • The receive block receives and processes the incoming modified version of the channel message signal to restore the original (non-electrical) form of the message signal.
  • There are a variety of receivers in communication systems, depending on the processing required to restore the original message signal and also on the final presentation of the message at the destination.

5. Destination blocks(output signal): -

  • The goal is the last block of the communication system that receives and processes the message signal to understand the information it contains.
  • In general, man will be the block of fate.
