An example of an efflorescent substance is the common copper (II) sulfate crystal CuSO4. 5H2O, a blue crystalline solid that when exposed to air, slowly loses water of crystallization from its surface to crystallize to form a white layer of anhydrous copper (II) sulfate. Na2CO3.

\sf \Large Answer!!

Efflorescence

It is the property of some salts to lose entirely, or somewhat, their water of crystallization when their crystals are exposed to dry air even for a short time. They become powdery. Such substances are called efflorescent substances.

Examples of efflorescent substances:

=> Washing soda [hydrated sodium carbonate], when exposed to dry air, becomes a monohydrate.

=> Glauber's salt [hydrated sodium sulphate], becomes a powdery anhydrous sodium sulphate when exposed to air.

=> Epsom salt [magnesium sulphate heptahydrate], when exposed to dry air, becomes a monohydrate.
