It is important to understand what factors affect the chemical and physical changes of matter.  Physical changes are about energy and states of matter.  They can be seen and measured.  Physical changes are caused by forces like motion, temperature, and pressure.  Chemical changes happen on a much smaller level.  Most of these changes between molecules are unseen.  Factors that affect the rate of chemical changes include: temperature, concentration, surface area, inhibitors, and catalysts.  Here are some examples of how these factors affect chemical and physical changes.

     Temperature affects the chemical change of matter.  If you increase temperature, you increase the reaction rate and vice versa.  A decrease or increase in temperature means fewer or more particles will have the activation energy.  Burning a sugar cube causes a chemical change as the fire breaks down the chemical bonds.
