Answer:

Explanation:

Factors on which resistance of conductor depends are as follows :-

1. Length :-

Resistance of a wire is directly proportional to its length. If length of the wire is doubled, resistance will become double.

2. Area of cross-section :-

Resistance is inversely proportional to the area of cross-section of a conductor. A thin wire will have the more resistance than a thick wire.

3. Temperature :-

When we increase the temperature, resistance of metallic conductor will increase.

4.  Nature of materials :-

A material may be a conductor with the low resistance, semiconductor with medium resistance an insulator having high resistance.

R ∝ l

R ∝ l/A

R ∝ l/A

R = ρ.l/A

ρ(rho) is a constant of proportionality called resistivity of a material of conductor.

Resistance

Resistance is the property of a current carrying conductor to obstruct/resist the flow of charges,i.e,flow of electrons

★Factors which determine Resistance:

Length of a conductor

  • Resistance of a conductor is directly proportional to its resistance
  • It the length is doubled so is the resistance

Area of the cross section

  • Resistance of a conductor is inversely proportional to its area of cross section
  • If the area of cross section is doubled, the resistance is halved

Temperature

  • Temperature of the heat generated due to passage of current in the conductor also determines its resistance

Nature of material

  • On the basis of the nature of the conductors, they can be conductors, semi conductors and insulators
  • Conductors allow the free flow of charges
  • Semiconductors are partial towards the flow of electrons though their conductivity can be made to vary
  • Insulators completely resist the flow of charges
