- availability of raw cotton, market , labour etc contributed towards its localisation.

-this industry has close links with agriculture and provides a living to people engaged in spinning, weaving etc

-the industry by creating demands supports many other industries like mill stores, engineering works etc.

- while spinning continues to be centralised in Maharashtra , Gujarat and Tamil Nadu weaving is highly decentralised to provide scope for traditional skills.

-weaving is done by handloom, power looks and in mills.

The textile industries has largest concentration in and around Mumbai (Maharashtra) and Ahmedabad (Gujarat)because of the following reasons:

1. Availability of raw materials: In the surrounding area of Mumbai and Ahmedabad there is large scale production of cotton ,hence there is regular supply of raw material required for this industry in the adjoining reason.

2. favourable climate: because of maritime situation they enjoy equable climate it is also moist so the thread does not break quite often.

3. Port facilities: Mumbai is a major sea port through it good quality cotton ,machine and raw material are easily imported and finished products are easily exported to foreign country.

4. It also provides other facilities such as transport facilities, source of power and capitalist to invest capital.
