Both kingdoms wanted to control the fertile and rich Raichur doab lying between rivers Krishna and Tungabhadra. They also wanted to conquer Golconda because of its diamond mines. Both kingdoms had ambitious and powerful rulers and wanted to annex and exert influence in each other's territory.
