What are the fate of plants after phytoremediation?

The removal of contaminants to a landfill location where the plants would eventually biodegrade and the contaminants could enter the soil system once again could be one way to the end but use phytoextraction crops for energy prodeuction hence pyrolysis, gasification or combustion come on mind.
