Condition necessary for combustion :

Three conditions which are necessary for combustion are as follows :

  1. The presence of combustible Substance.
  2. The presence of a supporter of combustion.
  3. Attainment of ignition temperature of the combustible Substance.

These three conditions, necessary for combustion, are also called triangle of fire.

Let us Study this condition in detail :

1. Combutible substances :

  • The presence of combutible substances like paper, cloth, wood, LPG, and petrol are necessary for combustion to take place.
  • The process of combustion can't occur without a combutible substances.

2. Supporter of Combustion :

  • Combustion is a chemical reaction between a combutible substance and oxygen (of air) to preduce heat.
  • The combutible substance does not burn in air.
  • The process of Combustion continues till there is a continuous supply of oxygen. It Stops, when the supply of oxygen is discontinued or cutoff.

3. Attainment of ignition temperature :

  • Wood and coals are fuels but, they do not start burning on their own. They burn when they are heated with the flame of candle or bunsen burner to the certain minimum temperature.
  • The lowest temperature to the substance must be heated to catch a fire and start burning is called the ignition temperature.
  • Different substances of different ignition temperature.

Extra and Gainful knowledge :

  1. A chemical process in which a substance burn in oxygen (of air) heat and light (which may or may not be produced) is called combustion.
  2. There are three types of combustion.
  3. Rapid Combustion, Spontaneous Combustion, explosion.
  4. Rapid Combustion : When a combustible substance burns at a rapid rate producing a very large amount of heat and light in a short period of time it is called the Rapid Combustion.
  5. Spontaneous Combustion : When a combustible substance burn on its own without the help of any external heat is called the Spontaneous Combustion.
  6. Explosion Combustion : Combustion reaction that occur suddenly with the evolution of a large amount of gases, heat, light and sound is known as Explosion Combustion.
