  • these soil are formed by the deposition of river load ie sediments as it flows along its long course ie from its upper course to its lower course
  • it is light and porus and hence easily tillable
  • it is fertile soil as it is rich in minerals especially potash and lime
  • it is deficient in nitrogen and humus expect the alluvium of ganga deltic region which is rich in humus.
  • it is suitable for the growth of a large variety of Rabi and kharif crops
  • it is alkaline in drier areas.
  • it is suitable for the growth of rice, wheat, sugarcane, cotton, tobacco, gram and oil seeds.
