Sevroy Hills and Javadi Hills are located to the South East of the Eastern Ghats. All the rivers draining the eastern coastal plains originate in the Western Ghats. Western Ghats run parallel to the Western coast. They are continuous and are crossed through passes only.

They are non-perennial. The Himalayan rivers have large basins and large catchment areas. The Deccan rivers have small basins and small catchment areas. While the Himalayan rivers irrigate the Northern Indian Plains, the Deccan rivers irrigate the peninsular Plateau of India.
