1. These forests are restricted to heavy rainfall areas of the Western Ghats and the island groups of lakshadweep, andaman and nicobar, upper parts of Assam and Tamil nadu coasts.

2. They are at their best in areas having more than 200cm of rainfall with a short dry season.

3. The trees reach great heights up to 60m or even above.

4. There is no definite time for trees to shed their leaves. As such, these forests appear green all the year round.

5. Some of the commercially important trees of this forest are ebony, mahogany, rosewood, rubber and cinchona.

6. The common animals found in these forests are elephants, monkey, lemur and deer.

7. The one horned rhinoceros are found in the jungles of Assam and West Bengal.

8. Besides these animals plenty of birds, bat, sloth, scorpions and snails are also found in these jungles.
