Given : second, third and fourth terms of the geometric sequence  are 2,4,8

To Find :  first term and the common ratio

Solution:

Assume that geometric sequence is

a , ar , ar² , ...  and so on

a =first Term

r = common ratio

aₙ = nth term = a. rⁿ⁻¹

Second term = ar  = 2

Third term = ar²  = 4

fourth term = ar³  = 8

ar² / ar  = 4/2

=> r  = 2

ar  = 2

=> a(2) = 2

=> a = 1

Hence a =first Term = 1

r = common ratio   = 2
