2.  Economic hardship, especially the agrarian crisis of 1788-89 generates popular discontent and disorders caused by food shortages.

3. International: struggle for hegemony and Empire outstrips the fiscal resources of the state

4.bad economic crisis and massive debt

5. costly wars and foreign adventures which cost a fortune but didn't help France or its people (e.g. Seven Year's War or supporting the American, revolution)

6. bad weather which caused crop failure

7. arrogance, corruption and incompetence of the ruling classes
