Answer:
The “Traditional Notion of Security” covers both the external and internal threats of a country's security. External threats consist of four components i.e. military threats, threat of war, balance of power, alliance building.
Answer:
The four components of traditional notions of security from external threats are:
i) Deterrence- security policy is concerned with preventing war by promising to raise the cost of war to an unacceptable level, this is called deterrence.
ii) Defence- the another policy is to defend itself when war actually breaks out so as to deny the attacking country its obejectives and to turn back or defeat the attacking forces together.
iii) Balance of Power- the powerful countries may opt to be aggressive at any point of time. Therefore the Governments work hard to maintain a favourable balance of powerwith other countries, especially those close by, those with whome they have differences, or with those they have had conflicts in the past. For example India maintain a balance of power with its neighbour China with which India have had conflicts in the past.
iv) Alliance Building- an alliance is a coalition of states that coordinate their actions to deter or defend against military attack. A good example of alliance building is NATO.
