There are different types of reading & each of the type has its own peculiarities. Those are skimming eyes, scanning, intensive reading & extensive reading.
Explanation:
Scanning: The only aim of this reading mode is to find the required information in the text. It does not imply a complete immersion in the text and a deep interpretation of the facts, an study of grammatical structures. The text is mostly interpreted in this style because of unfamiliar words, and it is easier to read the document entirely after their translation. This kind of reading is often referred to as diagonal reading.
For example in exam we may have to read a paragraph & answer the questions. That time we carefully read each and every word of paragraph.
Skimming: This reading mode is used to consider whether this data is useful for you (before you purchase a book from a shop or a magazine). In this case the text is read as quickly as it was in the previous case, but not as carefully. The aim is not to look for specific facts, but rather to assess the complexity of the text, the general story and the interest.
For example, say we go to a bookshop to search for a book with the same title but different writers, say we want to purchase a Book on Communication skills. Before deciding to purchase a novel, we don't have time to read the pages. Therefore, we quickly read through the contents, title page and the blurb. Skimming thus means "reading a text / book quickly to get a general idea of the material
Extensive Reading: This kind of reading is intended to familiarize itself with new knowledge. Without being distracted by new unfamiliar words , people read art or scientific literature if their meaning can be understood approximately from the context. It would be vital to form and express our opinion concerning what we read or answer the questions.
For example, during train/bus travel we may get hold of a comic strip, a novel, a magazine, and so on which we read for pure pleasure
Intensive Reading: This kind of reading is usually used in the English study to study the proposed short teaching text intensively. This kind of reading intensively explores grammatical constructions, unfamiliar words and phrases.
For example, we read it intensively when we read a book as a resource for study, as our reading is not aimed at an overarching comprehension..
