The functions of the circulatory system are as follows,
1) It transports blood and oxygen from the lungs to various parts of the body.
2) Deoxygenated blood reaches the right atrium of the heart and as the right atrium contracts the blood is transferred to the right ventricle and in turn when the right ventricle contracts blood is transferred to the lungs.
3) Oxygenated blood from the lungs reaches the left atrium and in turn when the left atrium contracts the blood blood is transferred to the left ventricle and when the left in its turn contracts blood is transferred to the rest of the body.
4) Pigments present in the plasma called haemoglobin transfers oxygen
5) Arteries carry oxygenated blood and pulmonary arteries carry deoxygenated blood.
Veins carry deoxygenated blood and pulmonary veins carry oxygenated blood.
6) On reaching an organ or tissue the artery divides into smaller and smaller vessels to bring the blood in contact with all individual cells. The smallest blood vessels are the capillaries which in turn joins together to form veins that convey blood away from organs or tissues.
Components of the circulatory system are
1) Blood vessels
2) Platelets
3)Lymph- That carries digested and absorbed fat from intestine and drains excess extra cellular space back into blood
