  • Gastric glands present in the walls of the stomach releases HCL(hydrochloric acid) and protein digestive enzyme called pepsin. HCL provides an acidic medium to facilitate the action of pepsin.Mucus secreted by this gland protect the inner lining of stomach from acidic medium.
  • From stomach food enters small intestine. It is the largest part of alimentary canal. Herbivores have longer small intestine in comparison to carnivores. Complete digestion of carbohydrates, proteins and fats occurs in small intestine.
