Functions of a leaf:

A leaf prepares food for the plants. The process of making food by the plant using carbon dioxide, water, chlorophyll, and light is called photosynthesis. Plants store food in the leaves, fruits, and stems in the form of starch. Plants breathe with the help of their leaves.

A Leaf is any of the primary appendages of a vascular plant stem mostly borne laterally above the ground and most important for photosynthesis.

The function of a leaf are:-

  • Leaves are usually flat so that they are well exposed to sunlight. Plants which live in shady places often have particularly big leaves.
  • Leaves are arranged in such a way that they do not cut off light from one another.
  • The leaves other than green also perform the process of photosynthesis.
  • They have plenty of veins containing vascular tissues like the xylem to carry absorbed water to the cells where photosynthesis takes place.
  • They have plenty of stomata on their lower surface so that carbon dioxide easily diffuses in the leaves.
