The functions of bones are :

  • The bones support the body just as the trunk supports a tree.

  • Bones form a framework and give shape to the body. They hold the body upright.

  • The bone marrow manufacturers red blood cells and is like a store house of many minerals.

  • Bones help in moving various parts of the body. We can run, bend, ride a bicycle, walk, because of the movement of bones.

  • Bones protect the internal organs of the body. The skull protects the brain. The ribcage protects the heart and the lungs and the vertebral column protects the spinal cord.
