The functions of Collenchyma :-

1. Collenchyma is a mechanical tissue in young dicotyledonous stems and provides mechanical support.

2. It provides elasticity to the plant.

3. It provides tensile strength with flexibility to those organs in which it is found.

4. It allows easy bending in various parts of the plant (leaf, stem) without actually breaking it.

5. When cells of Collenchyma contain some chloroplasts, they manufacture sugar and starch.

Hope this helps!!!
