Explanation:

The function of epiglottis is to cover the mouth of trachea (or wind pipe) when we swallow food so that the food may not enter the trachea (or wind pipe) or to prevent the food from going to wing pipe.

Answer: The epiglottis is a cartilaginous flap that extends in front and above the laryngeal inlet, or more specifically the rima glottidis (glottis). The epiglottis is located in the larynx and attached to the thyroid cartilage and hyoid bone . Its movements are regulated by the passive pressure from the tongue as it pushes the food down the pharynx. The main function of the epiglottis is to seal off the windpipe during eating, so that food is not accidentally inhaled. The epiglottis also helps with some aspects of sound production in certain languages.
