- In order to survive, an organism performs 7 life processes. These are movement, respiration, sensitivity, nutrition, excretion, reproduction and growth. Body needs energy to perform to perform all these life processes. Food provides the body with essential carbohydrates which are broken down to release energy to fuel the body.
- Food helps in stimulating senses. Various emotions are attached to the process of consuming food. The taste, smell and appearance of our meals can trigger the release of hormones associated with pleasant emotions hence, consuming food can maintain stress levels and satisfy our psychological needs.
- Foods can be categorized as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, minerals. These nutrients help in the repair and development of the cells in our bodies. Special nutrients help boost our immunity which helps while battling diseases caused by viruses and pathogens.
