It has been likened to the cell's post office. A major function is the modifying, sorting and packaging of proteins for secretion. It is also involved in the transport of lipidsaround the cell, and the creation of lysosomes. The sacs or folds of the Golgi apparatus are called cisternae.

GOLGI BODIES ..
These are small , hollow , plate like or cup shaped bodies found in animal cells. They form the Golgi apparatus and synthesise , store and secrete enzymes and proteins .they also help in formation of hormones .The Golgi bodies in plants are scattered and are known as Dictyosomes.
