what are the functions of liver ?

functions of the liver is to secrete bile juice which helps in the digestion of fat in which fats can be broken down into fatty acid and glycerol

the following are the functions of liver :

1)the liver secretes bluish or greenish bile juice

2) it contains bile salts like sodium carbonate and cholesterol

3)the bile is bitter alkaline fluid it contains about 90% of water

4)it contains products of decomposition by hemoglobin or the red blood corpuscles

5)the bile juice is alkaline it turns the medium of the food from acidic to alkaline because in alkaline medium further digestion takes place

6)the bile prepares the action of gastric juice in the ileum and prepares chyme for the action of pancreatic juice

7) the bile juice contains bile pigments like biliverdinand bilirubin and bile salts,water and their excretory material

8) the bile also acts as antiseptic and kills the bacteria and germs

9)the liver acts as a store house for non consumable sugar which is stored in the form of glycogen at the time of need the glycogen is converted into the glucose
(glycogen is synthesized from proteins )

10)proteins amino acids converted into urea is an excretory product

11)the kupffer cells of liver pick up the fat granules and change them into ordinary fat

12)vitamin A ,D ,iron and copper are stored in the liver

13)the special blood cells destroy and eat bacteria heparin produced by it helps in clotting of blood

14) the excretory products producing else whether elsewhere in the body or neutralize it in the liver

15) the toxic substances are converted into non toxic substances bile juice is secreted by the liver it has no enzyme it has certain bile salts
