Pharynx is the part of the throat that is situated immediately behind the mouth and nasal cavity. It is a passageway from the mouth to the oesophagus. Pharynx is also the part of respiratory system and act as respiratory pathway. In digestive system, the role of the pharynx is to facilitate the passage of the food from mouth to the esophagus. It is here where the second phase of swallowing takes place.
