What are the functions of plasma membrane

Plasma membrane gives a form and shape to the cell. It form junctions with neighbouring cells by forming plasmodesmata. It helps in tissue formation and also forms organelles in cytoplasm.

Functions of plasma membrane -

⟹ Protects the cell by acting as a barrier for unwanted substances.

⟹ Regulates the transport of substances in and out of the cell and allows only selected substances which are essential for cells to enter the cells.

⟹ Receives chemical messengers from other cell. Hence , acts as a receptor.

⟹ Helps in Cell mobility, secretions, and absorptions of substances.
