Information from environment through sense organs such as inner ear, nose ,tonque etc is collected and interpret accordingly e.g. gustatory receptor mean to detect taste while the olfactory receptor detect smell
think of situation receptor do not work properly it may be hazard
we can suffer from brain hammerage

receptor is a cell or a group of cells in a sense organ which is sensitive to a particular type of stimulus are a particular type of change in the environment such as light ,sound smell ,taste, heat, pressure etc.

Functions of receptors:

the different sense organs contain receptors for detecting different stimuli.

For example, the eyes have light receptors which can detect the light, years have sound receptors which can detect the sound etc.

When receptors do not work properly, the environmental stimuli are not able to create nerve impulses and body does not respond.

In such a situation it can cause harm to the body for example if we touch a hot object and our skin which has a receptors for detecting that touch does not work properly then the information will not be passed to the brain and thus it would cause burn in one's hand.
