The functions of liver other than production of bile is given below :-

  1. Control of blood sugar levels : It regulates blood sugar by retaining excess glucose received bas products of carbohydrate digestion from the intestine and storing it as glycogen , and releasing it again when needed.
  2. Control of amino acid levels: Excess amino acids are broken to remove the nitrogen part ( deamination) producing urea and sugar. Urea is eliminated through excretion and sugar is ultilized in metabolism.
  3. Synthesis of foetal red blood cells : It produces red blood cells in embryo. ( In adults, RBC are produced in the bone marrow).
  4. Storage : It stores iron, copper and several vitamins ( A& D), etc.
  5. Detoxification : Detoxifies substances including drugs and alcohol.
  6. Production of fibrinogen and prothrombin which are used in blood clotting.
  7. Production of heparin ( an anticoagulant) .
  8. Production of heat ( by cellular metabolism) .
  9. Regulation of blood volume by acting as temporary store of excess water.
  10. Excretion of toxic and metallic poisons.
  11. Destruction of dead red blood cells.

Hope it helps uh :)
