Xylem is one of the two types of transport tissue in vascular plants, phloem being the other. The basic function of xylem is to transport water from roots to stems and leaves, but it also transports nutrients.

Xylem is a complex permanent tissue in plants that make up a major component of vascular bundles.

The function of xylem tissue is to transport water and minerals from root to leaves.

The major component of xylem are xylem parenchyma, xylem fibres, Tracheids and vessels.

The movement from xylem is unidirectional unlike the movement in phloem which takes place in all directions.
