Great circle routes situated in a plane that intersects the sphere center and it is the smallest space between two points on the surface of a sphere. sailors uses compass heading and winds before 19th century, but due to the streamships the sailors have complete independence from the winds, as useful far away from the equatorial regions. in terms of gnomonic projection the great circle routes chats was plotted, on which great circles appear as straight lines.
