The Preamble encompasses the guiding principles of the Indian Constituion.

A preamble is the introduction to the Constitution. It is the expressionary statement in a document and explains the Constitution's purpose and underlying philosophy. The Preamble is important because :

It contains the philosophy on which the entire Constitution has been built. It provides a standard to examine and evaluate any law and action of government, to find out whether it is good or bad.

Four key points about the Preamble are that India is defined as a sovereign , socialist, secular and democratic republic.

a) Secularism: Principle of non interference in religion

b) Sovereignty stands for the supreme authority within the boundaries of a country. A sovereign state does not recognize legal supremacy of any other country,no other State or external power can interfere in the internal and external affairs of the country.

c)Liberty is the total rights possessed in general by the people of a community/state/nation as they relate to its government, and/or the expectation that a nation's people have of exemption from control by a foreign power.
