Answer:
"Norah Burke’s" story ‘Journey by Night’ depicts the "hardships of the people" living in the "vicinity of the forests". The story begins with a little boy having severe pain in his stomach. But there is apparently no remedy other than putting steaming clothes on the child’s belly. There is "neither" a "hospital" nor any "doctor" available nearby. Also, there was no one in the village to take him to the hospital at Kalaghat which is "fifty miles away" from Laldwani, the place where they lived. There was no doubt that all the villagers living there were left to their own fate whenever they had any serious ailments. We learn from the narrative that there were other children in "Sher Singh’s family" but ‘they were "dead", carried off by "cholera and influenza" and such, and by "jungle accidents".
