What are the harmful effects of pesticides

Pesticides contain harmful chemicals, they are used for agricultural purposes. But when those contaminates with the water bodies nearby or the crop there itself, it can cause harm to the water body, organisms depending/living in them, and the people might also fall sick they eat those polluted crops.
