(vii) Storage
EXPLAINING only for your better understanding on basis of NCERT book
- Preparation of soil is to turn the soil and loosen it [ This allows the roots to penetrate deep into soil , The loosend soil helps in growth of earthworms and microbes present in soil and these microbes further turn and loosen soil and add humus[decomposition of dead animals n plants] into it. turning and loosening of soil bring nutrient rich so plants can use it.
2. Sowing is planting seeds in ground , for sowing good quality
[clean and healthy] seeds are selected.
3. Adding manure and fertiliser is to add manure [is natural substance
made from decomposition of cattle dung ,human waste and plant
recidues.] and Fertiliser is an [ organic salt prepared in factories].
4. Irrigation is the supply of water to crops. Supply of water is done by
done by different methods of irregation [ wells, tubewells, ponds,
lakes, rivers, dams and canals /// Moat, Chain pump, Dhekli, Rahat,
Sprinkler system, Drip system] Along with water minerals and
fertilisers are also absorbed ,Plants contain nearly 90% water.
5. Protecting from weeds is the removing of weeds [ in field
undesirable plants grow naturally which compete with crop plants
for water, nutrients, space and light . Weed can even cause
poisonous for animals.] Weeds are controlled by certain chemicals
called weedicides 2,4-d.
6. Harvesting is the cutting of a crop after it is mature. In the
harvested crop the grain seeds need to be seperated from the chaff
called threshing [is done by machine combine] and farmers of small
holdings do the chaff by winnowing machine.
7. Storage is to keep safe [ from moisture, insects, rats and
microorganisms] harvested crop. Crops are stored in jute bags or
metallic bins. Large scale storage of grains is done in silos and
granaries to protect them from pests like rats and insects.
