Rivers are one of the natural assets of a country. India has hundreds of rivers covering almost all the parts of the country. The most important rivers of India are :

Northern Rivers

1.  Ganga--the longest one and is referred as the National River of India.

2.  Yamuna or Jamuna--longest and largest river of Delhi.

3.  Brahamaputra--the largest river of India.

4.  Indus or Sindhu--It flows to Pakistan.

5.  Mahanandi-- known as Ruin of Orissa.

Southern Rivers

1.  Godavari--longest river in the South and thus is known as Dakshini Ganga or South Ganga.

2.  Krishna--Fourth largest river of India.

3.  Kaveri--Tamil Nadu and Karnataka disputed over its water.

Central India

1.  Narmda--Largest dam i.e Narmada dam is constructed on it.

2.  Tapti--the largest river in central India.
