Heya friend!!
Rajdeep here....
Important sources of irrigation are:
1. Lined perennial wells, which forms Well irrigation: Here, wells are dug and water is taken up by farmers at their will.
2. Tanks, which form Tank irrigation: An embankment is built across a perennial stream of water which stores the rain water.
3. Canals, which form Canal irrigation: These are perennial as they have the perennial snow fed rivers as their source.
Role of irrgation:
1. Rainfall in India is erratic and unpredictable, so the cannot only depend on rain water.
2. Irrigation has resulted in 99% better growth of crops than the crops grown in non irrigated areas.
3. 92% of the water is used for agriculture. Good methods like Sprinkler irrigation and Drip irrigation also saves water.
Thanks!!
