India's contribution to World affairs can be assessed from the following points:
a. India as an Independent nation has always stood for United Nations since its inception, adhering to its principles and objectives.
b. India's foreign policy has been guided by maintaining peace and harmonious relations with nations.
c. India was one of the Founding members of NAM as it felt that aligning with any of the power blocs would aggravate international tension, rather than promote peace. Therefore, a policy of non alignment would help in reducing tension and would prevent the outbreak of another war.
d. It aims at promoting World Peace and friendly nations with all States.
e. It denounces Imperialism, colonialism and discrimination on the basis of colour or caste.
f. India has helped United Nations – an agency of World Peace to carry on its peace keeping and other functions effectively. For example , India has contributed its troops in UN Peace keeping missions.
g. India has always Fostered respect for international laws & treaty obligations.
h. It has maintained trade and economic cooperation with other countries.
i. It has encouraged settlement of international disputes by arbitration.
