Drinking water quality standard are the parameter set for the quality checking of water. These standards are applicable to such water at an extent which defines that water are potable or not for humans and animals. There are several organisation in the world which defines their own parameters of water purity set. Not specified international standard are generated each state have their own standard to characterise water quality. Some of the standards are as follows:
According to European Union Standards water are potable only if certain amount of dissolved harmful chemicals are below its alarming scale. Few are
a) Arsenic conc. should less than 10 microgram /L.
b) Benzene conc. should be less than 1 microgram/ L.
c) Cadmium conc. should be less than 5 microgram/L.
d) Copper conc. should be less than 2 microgram/L.
e) Flouride conc. should be less than 1.5 microgram/L
f) Polycyclic aromatic compounds should be less than 0.10 microgram /L
g) Selenium conc. should be less than 10 microgram /L.
